Port Moresby: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden will visit Papua New Guinea in May to participate in a “historic” forward-looking meeting of Pacific leaders, the island’s Prime Minister James Marape said on Sunday (Apr 30). Marape said in a statement that his country is ready to welcome both President Biden and PM Modi for the India-Pacific Islands Cooperation meeting in May, which will be attended by the leaders of the 18 Pacific Islands.

“Papua New Guinea is ready to receive both President Biden and Prime Minister Modi. This is a historic first, as well as a futuristic meeting of global superpowers to ‘move on’ in the largest country in the Pacific region.

Biden will visit Papua New Guinea on May 22

Biden’s visit to Papua New Guinea will be his first stop as US President. PM Marape said that the White House has officially confirmed that President Biden will make a historic visit to the country on 22 May. Biden will meet the prime minister of Papua New Guinea as well as 18 leaders from the Pacific Islands, who will be in the capital Port Moresby to attend.
