Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar during her last rites.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mumbai on Sunday and paid his last tribute to veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who breathed her last due to multiple organ failure this morning. Mangeshkar’s last rites took place today with full state honors at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.

Earlier, the central government had declared two days of national mourning in memory of Lata Mangeshkar.

Earlier today, the PM condoled Mangeshkar’s demise, and revealed that he would leave for Mumbai to pay his last respects to the legendary singer. He recalled their memories together and wrote, “Lata didi has gone to heaven. Many like me would proudly say that she had a close relationship with her. Wherever you go, you can always find her loved ones.” His melodious voice will always be with us, I pay tribute to him with a heavy heart.”

Lata Mangeshkar, 92, was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8, when she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia. However, after recovering from COVID, the singer was put on ventilator support after her condition deteriorated on Saturday.
