PM Modi US visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Delhi on Tuesday morning for his first official state visit to the United States. PM Modi will participate in Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Wednesday. After this he will meet US President Joe Biden. PM Modi will also address the joint session of the US Congress in Washington DC. He will also meet business leaders, interact with the Indian community.
Before leaving for a state visit to the US, PM Modi tweeted, “Leaving for UAS where I will attend events in New York City and Washington DC.” These events include Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters, an interaction with US President Joe Biden, addressing a joint session of the US Congress and many more.
PM Modi has been invited by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. PM Modi’s visit will begin in New York where the Prime Minister will lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.
PM Modi will be formally welcomed at the White House on June 22
After this, PM Modi will go to Washington DC, where he will be formally welcomed at the White House on 22 June. During this, PM Modi will meet President Biden. According to a release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a state dinner in honor of the Prime Minister on the evening of June 22. The Prime Minister will also address the joint meeting. US Congress on June 22.
An invitation to deliver such a historic speech was extended by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, demonstrating bipartisan support and respect for Prime Minister Modi in the United States. He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to address a joint session of the United States Congress twice.
Praising PM Modi
The invitation letter from President Biden and his wife lauded PM Modi’s last historic address 7 years ago, which helped strengthen ties between the two countries. In its message, the White House emphasized that this is an opportunity to reaffirm the deep and close alliance between the two countries. PM Modi expressed his thanks for the privilege and said he looked forward to addressing the joint session.
In his message, PM Modi reiterated his pride in a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership with the US based on the principles of democratic values, close people-to-people ties, and a firm commitment to global peace and prosperity.
PM Modi’s program on 23 June
On June 23, US Vice President Kamala Harris and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will jointly host a lunch for PM Modi. Apart from official engagements, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a number of curated interactions with prominent CEOs, professionals and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora.
He is expected to meet business leaders from 20 top US companies and address a gathering of over 1,500 expatriate and business leaders invited to the John F Kennedy Center in Washington.
Top 20 business leaders from US companies including Mastercard, Accenture, The Coca-Cola Company, Adobe Systems and Visa are expected to call on Prime Minister Modi. It is being told that the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), a business advocacy group headed by Mukesh Aghi, will host ‘We the People: Celebrating the US-India Partnership’ in Washington DC on Friday, June 23, 2023. After this, the PM will go to Cairo on a state visit to Egypt on June 24-25.
