New DelhiPrime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Delhi in the early hours of Monday after completing his first six-day state visit to the United States and Egypt. PM Modi was received at Palam airport by BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Minister of State Meenakshi Lekhi and various party MPs including Hans Raj Hans and Gautam Gambhir.
Earlier today, PM Modi shared glimpses of his maiden visit to Egypt on his Twitter handle. The video shows his arrival in the African country, meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouly, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and interacting with members of the Indian diaspora.
Sharing the video on Twitter, PM Modi tagged the clip with a message that said, “My visit to Egypt was a historic one. It will add new strength to India-Egypt relations and benefit the people of our countries.” I thank President @AlsisiOfficial.” , for the affection of the government and the people of Egypt.”
PM Modi gets Egypt’s highest honor
PM Modi received Egypt’s highest state honor from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. This was the thirteenth state honor of its kind to be given to him. In the last nine years, PM Modi has received several international awards, including Companion of the Order of Logohu, Companion of the Order of Fiji and the Abakal Award by the Republic of Palau.
On Sunday, PM Modi held a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which they signed an agreement to elevate bilateral ties to a “strategic partnership”. The two leaders discussed ways to further deepen the partnership between the two countries, including in trade, investment, defence, security, renewable energy, cultural and people-to-people ties.
PM Modi visits Al-Hakim Mosque in Egypt
PM Modi also visited the Pyramids of Giza and the Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo. After visiting the Al-Hakim Mosque, PM Modi went to the Heliopolis War Cemetery and paid tribute to Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during World War I.
On Saturday, PM Modi also held a round table meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouli in Cairo. He also met think tanks in Egypt during his two-day visit to the Arab nation. PM Modi was on a state visit to Egypt from 24-25 June.
In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met prominent American and Indian CEOs, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, on his state visit to the United States. Upon his arrival he was given a ceremonial welcome at the White House and a guard of honor. PM Modi was hosted by US President Joe Biden as well as First Lady Jill Biden for a state dinner at the White House, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Vice President Kamala Harris also hosting a state luncheon.
On 22 June, PM Modi became the first Indian leader to address a joint session of the US Congress twice. His first address to a joint meeting of the US Congress was in 2016.
