Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the ninth International Day of Yoga celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The historic yoga session was attended by top UN officials, ambassadors, envoys, representatives of member states as well as prominent members of the global and diaspora community.

The yoga session was held in the sprawling North Lawn of the UN Headquarters, where the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, gifted by India to the UN in December last year during the country’s presidency of the UN Security Council, was installed. People from over 180 countries participated in the Yoga Day celebrations led by Prime Minister Modi, representing various walks of life and including diplomats, artists, academics and entrepreneurs.

Prime Minister Modi paid respect to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi which now “proudly adorns” the North Lawn of the United Nations Headquarters where the yoga was held.
