Calling the BJP government in Karnataka “the most corrupt in the country”, he announced that the Congress would win 150 of the total 224 seats in Karnataka in the May 10 assembly elections, while the “40 per cent BJP government” would get only 40 seats. seats. He was referring to complaints from contractors that the BJP government in the state had allegedly demanded 40 per cent commission from them for government contracts.

“Basavanna said don’t be afraid, speak the truth. Today, if we see, it is the ideology of BJP and RSS which is creating an atmosphere of hatred and violence in the country. The Prime Minister and BJP leaders speak about Basavanna, but do not follow his teachings.”

Addressing a public meeting here, he said that Basavanna had talked about helping the weaker sections of the society, he did not say ‘help the billionaires’.

“I have read about Basavanna’s teachings. He has nowhere written that ‘Desh ki Daulat Adani ko dilwao’. I spoke in the Parliament House, I asked the Prime Minister what is his relation with Adani? ‘Desh ki Puri Giving wealth, ports and airports to Adani; what is your relationship?’,” he said.

Claiming that his microphone was first switched off for asking those questions in Parliament, Gandhi said that his speech was then expunged from the records of Parliament, and finally he himself was removed from the Lok Sabha.

He said, “They think that truth can be spoken only in the Lok Sabha, but it can be spoken anywhere, even here.”

AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Karnataka Congress campaign committee chief MB Patil and KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi were also present.

Gandhi was speaking after taking out a massive road show from Shivaji Circle to Kanakdas Circle, in which a large number of people took part, amidst the sound of drums.

Gandhi began his two-day visit to the poll-bound Karnataka earlier today from Kudal Sangma, where he paid tributes to Basaveshwara, also known as Basavanna, on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as Basava Jayanti. . Basavanna is the founder of the Lingayat sect.
