Plastic straw ban, cause fall in line – Times of India

New Delhi: Top beverage companies on Tuesday refused to postpone their decision by the government to ban single-use plastic Items including straws, which are bundled with tetrapacks of drinks such as juices and milkshakes.

RS Sodhi, MD, GCMMF (Amul), which requires 10-12 lakh straws every day, said the organization is ready with options despite a slight delay in shipment. “Currently, we are working on manufacturing biodegradable straws which are cheaper than paper straws,” Sodhi said.

The government has ruled out delaying the ban amid vigorous lobbying by beverage companies. Wishing to postpone the ban, he had argued that the supply of paper straws in India was short and that their import at high cost would affect operations.
