PL: After 2 Postponed Fixtures, Man United v Brighton Under Scanner UK Due to Omicron Threat

Omicron threat: The number of Omicron cases in the United Kingdom was a matter of concern. According to the UK Health Protection Agency, the number of daily omicron infections in the UK has been estimated to be 200,000.

England’s football league, the Premier League, also saw 42 Covid-19 cases among players and staff. Thus, the Brentford v Manchester United and Brighton v Tottenham matches were postponed by the league. United requested the postponement of the match after some staff and four players tested positive for Covid after the weekend’s game against Norwich City.

Now that two games in three days were postponed due to the outbreak of Covid-19, dark clouds have turned over the Brighton vs Manchester United game slated to play this Saturday. If cases continue to escalate in the Premier League, Saturday’s game will face the same fate as Brentford vs United.

“First team operations at the club’s Carrington Training Complex were closed today to help control the outbreak and reduce the risk of infection among players and staff. The league wishes a speedy recovery to those players and staff with COVID-19,” read a statement from the Premier League.

The Premier League did not postpone a single match this season due to Kovid-19. Modeling estimates were made by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a televised statement on Sunday, warning that Britain was facing a “tidal wave” of Omicron infections.
