Bengaluru Bulls beat defending champions Bengal Warriors 36-35 in a close match of Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 here on Sunday. A brilliant 15 points by Pawan Sehrawat and a two-point raid in the last minute by South Korean Dong-jeon Lee sealed the match for the Bulls.

Bengal will blame itself only after a good start was given by skipper Maninder Singh, who scored 17 points. Abozar Mighani’s mistakes however proved very costly for the season 7 champions.

Maninder Singh and Pawan Sehrawat ensured that it was a day to miss a spectacular kabaddi raid in a high-scoring first half where Bulls stunned the Warriors.

The start of the game in Bengal’s front foot with Maninder’s raw power was a major challenge for Bengaluru’s defence. The raider pulled out a huge Super Raid in the 8th minute of the match and took out four Bulls defenders and the defending champions got their first all-out of the match. Maninder also got his Super 10 in the first half.

But Bengaluru, despite being 8 points behind, refused to drop their shoulders and slowly regained the momentum. Pawan Sehrawat who spent about 8 out of the first 15 minutes in the dugout then showed the world why he is regarded as a top raider with 7-points (5+2 points for Super Raid) to help the Warriors win. The defense can be all out. Around half the time. Bulls took the lead to end the first half 18-17.

Mohammad Nabibakhsh ensured that Pawan Sehrawat started the second half with an unsuccessful raid in the first half, with the Indian women’s kabaddi team watching from the wall of the fan. But Bengal failed to capitalize and soon Pawan returned to bag his Super 10. Aman, playing his first season of PKL, produced a superb ankle grip on Maninder, reducing Bengal to just 2 men on the mat. The bulls were all out in the 12th minute of the half to score 28-21 but Bengal showed their warrior spirit to make a quick comeback. Maninder scored 2 points in a raid while Nabibakhsh picked up a raid point and then successfully faced Pawan Sehrawat.

The Iranian all-rounder led the charge, limiting the Bulls’ lead to just one point (31-30), with the Warriors five minutes on the clock, with another all out. But Bulls coach Randhir Singh Sehrawat proved why he is considered the best in the business by bringing on Dong-jeon Lee. The South Korean launched a 2-point raid targeting the right corner of Bengal. Warriors could get only 1 point in the last raid and they lost the match by the narrowest margin.
