Star raider Sachin’s last-minute heroics helped Patna Pirates beat Telugu Titans 31-30 in a Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 match at the Sheraton Grand Whitefield in Bengaluru on Monday. It was a team effort led by Monu Goyat (7 points) and Sachin (6 points) that helped the Pirates register a narrow victory in a close encounter against the Titans.

Titans must have thought that when Ankit Beniwal scored a point in the final seconds of the match, they managed to tie, but Sachin remained calm in the final raid to ensure Patna got all five points. Ankit Beniwal made a Super 10 for Titans in Season 8 without a win.

The first half was for the Pirates in which their raiders Prashant Kumar Rai and Sachin scored easy points. Prashant was the first to create the magic, a dabki leading to a 3-point super raid in the 5th minute of the match and transferring the momentum towards Patna. The three-time champions did not waste much time and took a five-point lead in the 10th minute by giving the game the first all out. Mohamedreza Chianeh and Sajin C were once again having a good day in the defense as the Titans raiders struggled to find an opportunity.

Due to the disappearance of Siddharth Desai, the young raiding pair of Rakesh Gowda and Ankit Beniwal were under pressure but they could not match the teamwork of athletics and pirates defence. The half ended 18-13 with the Pirates leading.

But the Titans were unwilling to let the match go, and they found much-needed motivation in their defence. Ruturaj Korvi’s diving double thigh inspired him to thwart the pirates’ attack. The raiders absorbed that confidence as Ankit Beniwal and Rakesh Gowda were forced to bowl all out in the 8th minute of the second half.

Ankit Beniwal then produced a 3-point super raid, with less than 8 minutes to go, to take the score to 24-24. Monu Goyat displayed his all-rounder abilities by opening the Super Tackle with less than five minutes left to give the Pirates some breathing room.

But Titans once again closed the gap and Ankit Beniwal equalized it with just one raid remaining in the match. The only remaining player on the mat for the Pirates was raider Sachin and he pounced on a mistake by Sandeep Kandola in the Titans’ left corner to win the match for the Pirates.
