Bengaluru: Jaipur Pink Panthers stunned table toppers Patna Pirates in 38-28 inches Pro Kabbadi League Season 8 match on Friday.
attacker Deepak Hooda Super 10 scored and Arjun Deshwal assisted with nine points as Panthers continued their habit of beating top teams in Season 8. Patna had a day on the mat with their raiders struggling to make the required impact.
It was a close contest with Jaipur set to shock Patna in the first half.
Monu Goyati The opening minutes looked impressive for the Pirates while in-form Deepak Hooda did most of the raiding duty for the Panthers. No tackle points were scored in the first 10 minutes with a score of 10-10.
Pink Panthers’ Sahul Kumar slowly found momentum in the defense in the last leg of the half.
He and Deepak Hooda combined to make the first all out in the last minute to take a four-point lead.
Arjun Deshwal of Jaipur then raided two points and made a half-century of 18-12 in his favor.
Prashant Rai and Sachin also started raiding more for the Pirates in the second half, but they failed to close the gap on the Panthers.
Patna thought they had a super raid when Monu Goyat’s finger went past the mid-line near the ninth minute of the half. But the referee said that the raider’s struggle was over.
With 10 minutes remaining, Jaipur took a five-point lead. The major difference between the teams was how they approached their do or die raids. Jaipur converted most of them while the pirates were often destroyed.
Jaipur had a healthy seven-point lead, and used the momentum to post another all out in less than two minutes.
Mohammadreza Shadloui’s outing in the left corner for Patna was poor and Jaipur collected points from him to secure the win.
