Piyush Goyal: Union Minister Piyush Goyal attends G20 Sherpas meet – Times of India

New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and G-20 Sherpa of India Piyush Goyal Participated in a two-day G20 Sherpas meeting in virtual format on 15-16 September, foreign Ministry (MEA) said in a statement on Friday.
“This was Piyush Goyal’s first G20 meeting since his appointment as India’s G20 Sherpa. The meeting was chaired by Italian Ambassador Luigi Mattiolo. G20 Sherpa, who welcomed Piyush Goyal into the G-20 family,” the statement said.
“The agenda of the meeting was to discuss and exchange views on the draft Rome Declaration, which will be adopted by the G-20 leaders. Rome Summit 30-31 October, 2021,” it added.
The main themes of the declaration were health and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, sustainable development, environment, climate and energy, gender equality, education, labour, employment, tourism, culture and the digital economy.
Sherpa thanked Italy for the leadership of the G20 this year and for its efforts to draft a strong document for leaders covering a wide range of topics. Highlighting India’s progress on each of these issues, he said New Delhi would play a constructive role in negotiating a meaningful and balanced statement for the leaders.
