GADAG: A pillion motorbike rider was killed, and 15 bus passengers were injured, when a bus driver tried to avoid a collision with a motorbike in Gadag on Wednesday.
The passengers said that they were travelling in the Gadag-Nargund bus, from Veterinary College on Hombal Road. “When a motorbike came from the opposite direction, by overtaking a tractor, the driver tried to avoid a collision with the two-wheeler. However, the motorbike was run over by the rear wheel of the bus. As the driver lost control over the bus, it overturned, and fell on the roadside,” they said.
They alleged that it took almost half-an-hour to get an ambulance to shift those who were severely injured in the accident. “We were shifted by some private vehicles, with the help of locals,” they added. Gadag Rural police said that the deceased is Hanamantappa of Lingadal village. “The motorbike rider is absconding, and we have launched a search operation to locate him,” they added.
