Surat: Inspector of Police (PI) Umra A sub-inspector (SI) of Surat police station and special branch was transferred, while two were transferred in connection with a clash between police and students during a garba event at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) earlier this week. The constables were suspended.
On the basis of preliminary investigation, City Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar issued orders for transfer of PI KI Modi of Umra police station and Special Branch SI BS Parmar. Two constables Isardan Gadhvi and Dharmendragiri Goswami have been suspended.
Tomar told TOI, “Police were found responsible for negligence in investigation and based on the investigation report, disciplinary action was taken against them.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday, ABVP members staged a sit-in outside the colleges of the city and blocked the roads. The student body of the BJP demanded action against the policemen who allegedly thrashed students on the VNSGU campus on Monday.
The Garba was organized despite the police refusing permission as it was prohibited as per the government notification. The event, initially planned by the students of the Department of Biotechnology for around 100 participants, was hijacked by a group to organize a large-scale on-campus.
