The budget for health has seen an overall increase of about 16 per cent between the budget estimates of 2021-22 and 2022-23

Industry body PHDCCI on Thursday said that the health budget should be increased by 30-40 per cent as there is a growing need for health facilities and infrastructure across the country. Giving suggestions for the upcoming Union Budget, PHDCCI President Saket Dalmiya said that the budget for health has seen an increase of about 16 per cent between the budget estimates of 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The major focus may be on a comprehensive campaign for healthy living, which is the need of the hour to build a healthy human resource for the country.

“The importance of healthy living should compulsorily be included in the school curriculum. Awareness programs on diabetes and other lifestyle diseases should be organized by local bodies, circles and associations.”

On his expectations from the next budget, Ajay Poddar, Chairman and Managing Director, Synergy Environics, said that rapid and accurate diagnosis is the most relevant demand and towards effective health management, besides helping in controlling the spread of infection, the patient’s health Will be able to make a quick comeback. ,

“We need a multi-disease diagnostic platform and affordable diagnostics and wellness promotion in the country,” he added.

Poddar also said that the government should come out with a mechanism and policy framework to allow health insurance to cover health tests and AYUSH treatments as well. Incentivizing and funding research can reduce health care costs by up to Rs 1,000 per person per year.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the Union Budget 2023-24 on 1 February.

The ministry held several rounds of discussions with various stakeholders in various sectors to seek suggestions for the budget.

Siddhartha Ghosh, Director, Hyderabad Campus, NMIMS, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, said that per capita insurance expenditure on healthcare in India India Lowest in the world.

More than 75 per cent of Indians do not have any health insurance, and the new budget should have a provision to handle this,” Ghosh said.

PHDCCI also said that the government should also set up primary clinics at the panchayat level and ensure their proper and regular functioning.

Dalmiya said that they should be digitally equipped to facilitate telemedicine and the data collected at the panchayat level should also be used digitally for treatment at various places.
