In Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, one liter of petrol stood at Rs 108.21. Diesel can be brought in the city at Rs 98.28 per liter. Similarly, Kolkata petrol was priced at Rs 112.19 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 98.28 per litre.
Petrol price in Ahmedabad today was Rs 102.29 while diesel was priced at Rs 96.54. On the other hand, petrol was priced at Rs 117.05 per liter in Pune today, while a liter of diesel was priced at Rs 99.78 per litre. The price of petrol in Noida was Rs 102.67 per liter, while the price of diesel in Noida was Rs 94.22 per litre.
Petrol and diesel prices rose soon after the results of assembly elections in five states were announced amid tensions between Russia and Ukraine, pushing crude oil prices to a seven-year high. Fuel prices were stable since November 4 last year, when the Center cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 to give some relief to the common man.
On Friday, in a conversation with CNBC TV18, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that India is already buying crude from Russia at a cheaper rate and will continue to do so. “India’s national interest, energy concerns should be put first. We have started buying Russian oil. If we are being offered at low rates, why don’t we take a decision that benefits people.”
