Petrol, diesel prices today: Fuel rates to remain stable for 18 days

As per the latest price list released by state-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), the rates of petrol And diesel Thursday 23 September remained unchanged for the 18th consecutive time in the country. In the national capital, the retail pump petrol price last stood at Rs 101.19 per liter and diesel at Rs 88.62 per litre. Prices remained the same in Delhi on 23rd September. In the country’s economic hub Mumbai, petrol prices were stable at Rs 107.26 per liter and diesel rates were also unchanged at Rs 96.19 per litre. Notably, the price of petrol is still the highest among the four metro cities of the capital city of Maharashtra.

Petrol, diesel prices remained unchanged in Kolkata as well, petrol price remained stable and stood at Rs 101.62 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 91.71 per litre. In Chennai, consumers will pay the same price as petrol can be bought at Rs 98.96 per liter on Thursday while diesel costs Rs 93.26 per litre. The cost of a liter of precious fuel in Bhopal is Rs 109.63 and diesel is Rs 97.57 per litre.

Benchmark crude oil prices rose in the international market on Thursday. Reuters reported that strong gains extended overnight with rising fuel demand and a drop in crude oil stocks as production disrupted in the US Gulf of Mexico after two storms wreaked havoc in the region.

Brent crude futures rose 17 cents, or 0.2 per cent, to $76.36 a barrel by 0143 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures followed suit and rose 13 cents, or 0.2 per cent, to $72.36 a barrel. Report cited further.

The prices of both the major auto fuels differ across the country and the difference in rates is on account of Central Excise Duty and freight charges by the State Governments, VAT etc. Various taxes and fees make up about half of the retail sale price of the fuel. State-run refiners Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum revise fuel prices daily in line with international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates. OMCs release new fuel prices which are applicable every day at 6 am.
