Petrol, diesel prices still high in Delhi, Mumbai; Know the rates in your city

On Sunday, there was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel for the 11th consecutive day. The last revision in fuel prices was seen more than a week ago with petrol prices increasing by 80 paise. The latest price of petrol was Rs 105.41 per liter in the national capital and Rs 120.51 per liter in Mumbai. Diesel was priced at Rs 96.67 per liter in Delhi and Rs 104.77 per liter in Mumbai.

Fuel prices in the country are revised on a daily basis based on international crude oil prices and foreign exchange fluctuations. Price revision was put on hold for four months from November last year. It reintroduced the amendment on March 22 after the election results of four states were declared. Within a fortnight of the back-to-back hikes after March 22, the fuel price saw an overall hike of Rs 10 per litre.

Petrol in Kolkata was priced at Rs 115.12 per liter, while diesel was being sold at Rs 99.83 per litre. Petrol in Chennai was priced at Rs 110.85 per liter, while the retail price of diesel was Rs 100.94 per litre.

The price of petrol per liter in Bhopal was Rs 118.14, while for diesel it was Rs 101.16 per litre. In Hyderabad, people were buying petrol at Rs 119.49 per liter and diesel at Rs 105.49 per litre. Petrol in Bengaluru was being sold at Rs 111.09 per liter and diesel at Rs 94.79 per litre.

The current petrol rate in Guwahati is Rs 105.66 per liter and diesel was being sold at Rs 91.40 per litre. In Lucknow, the price of petrol per liter was Rs 105.25 and diesel was being sold at Rs 96.83 per litre.

The price of petrol in Gandhinagar was Rs 105.29 per liter, while the price of diesel was Rs 99.64 per litre. Petrol was being sold at Rs 117.19 per liter and diesel at Rs 103.95 per liter in Thiruvananthapuram.

The rates of these precious fuels vary from state to state depending on taxation, transportation cost etc.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday that the central government is appealing to the states to cut VAT on petrol and diesel to provide relief to the consumers. When asked by reporters about the rising fuel prices, the minister said, “Our effort is to keep the prices under control. Hence, the Center last year reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel and asked the state government to do the same.

Currently, Brent crude oil is trading at $ 111.70 per barrel, which is a rise of 2.68 percent compared to the previous close.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a special military operation in Ukraine’s Donbass region on February 24, Brent crude prices hit US$100 a barrel for the first time since 2014. In the following days, US’ West Texas Intermediate crude futures also skyrocketed. 130.50 per barrel, the highest since July 2008, before retreating. Brent also touched a high of $139.13, which is also the highest level since July 2008.
