Notably, the price of petrol and diesel has remained unchanged since the Center reduced excise duty. Brent crude futures recently gained 13 cents to $85.47 a barrel.
Oil companies release fuel and diesel rates every morning at 6 am. Companies like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited update the rates across the country. For rates, these companies take into account factors like local taxes, VAT, dealer commission and freight charges, to name a few. The taxes of the states play an important role in determining the volatility in the prices of petrol and diesel.
