Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in the country on June 27. Petrol is being sold at Rs 96.72 per liter in the national capital, while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.62 per litre. in Mumbai, petrol Its price is Rs 111.35 per liter, while a liter of diesel is available for Rs 97.28.
The reduction in fuel prices came on May 22, when the price of petrol was reduced by Rs 8.69 while the price of diesel saw a change of Rs 7.05 in the national capital. On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a reduction in excise duty on fuel prices, providing some relief from rising petrol and diesel prices.
The retail price of petrol in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 per litre, while the retail price of diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre. Petrol consumers in the Tamil Nadu capital will have to pay Rs 102.63 per liter, while diesel consumers in Chennai will have to pay Rs 94.24 per litre.
Fuel prices in the country are determined by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on a daily basis. Prices are based on the benchmark average price of the fuel over the past 15 days in the global market and foreign exchange rates. Apart from OMCs, the fuel price also varies from state to state and is due to several local factors. The cost of petrol and diesel in a state depends on freight traffic and local taxes (VAT).
