Petrol, diesel prices fall in Delhi, Mumbai, other cities after tax cut; Check fuel price today

Petrol, Diesel Price Today: The Center slashed the prices of petrol and diesel last week and since then the prices of petrol and diesel have come down across the country. On Saturday, May 27, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged as oil marketing companies did not increase or decrease their rates during the daily update at 6 am. Petrol and diesel prices saw a sharp reduction last week when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the central government led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi In view of the exorbitant prices of petrol and diesel, it was decided to reduce the excise duty.

Petrol in Delhi today costs Rs 96.72 per liter while diesel costs Rs 89.62. Data available on the Indian Oil Corporation website shows that the current price of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 111.35, while that of diesel is Rs 97.28. On the other hand, the price of petrol in Kolkata was Rs 106.03 per liter, and the price of diesel in the city was Rs 92.76 per litre.

Last Saturday i.e. on May 21, Nirmala Sitharaman announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. Following the government’s decision, the price of petrol in the national capital was cut by Rs 8.69 per liter, while that of diesel by Rs 7.05. Following this, several state governments including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Rajasthan announced that VAT on petrol and diesel has been reduced in the states. This has been done at a time when the country is under pressure from rising inflation, which hit a one-month high in April.

Petrol and diesel prices in the country vary from state to state depending on the prices of crude oil, local taxation (VAT) and freight charges. Apart from this, the central government levies excise duty on auto fuels.

Global crude oil prices rose on Friday, the end of the week ahead of the US Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to Reuters. Brent crude was up $2.03, or 1.7 percent, to close at $119.43. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was up 98 cents, or 0.9 per cent, at $115.07 a barrel. During the week, Brent rose 6 per cent while WTI rose 1.5 per cent.
