Petrol, Diesel Prices Fall: Fuel Prices Below Rs 100 In Many Cities; check petrol price

Petrol and diesel prices today: Petrol and diesel prices remained stable on Friday, November 19. This was the 16th consecutive day when petrol and diesel prices were stable. Petrol, diesel prices were witnessing record highs before the sharp cut on the eve of Diwali. The price of auto fuels has come down by Rs 5 and Rs 10 after the Center decided to cut excise duty. The move comes amid criticism from the government after petrol, diesel prices saw record highs and exceeded Rs 100 in most places. Amid the skyrocketing price of petrol and diesel in India, which had become a cause of concern for the common man, states also reduced the value added tax (VAT) due to the decision. With this, the price of petrol has come down below Rs 100 in most states of India.

With the Centre’s tax cut, petrol price in the national capital Delhi rose to Rs 103.97 and remained unchanged on Wednesday. The price of petrol in Mumbai on that day was Rs 109.98 per liter, the highest in the metropolitan city. On Wednesday, the price of one liter of petrol in Kolkata was Rs 104.67. On Wednesday, the price of petrol in Chennai was Rs 101.40 a liter.

The cost of a liter of diesel that day was Rs 86.67. The Delhi government has not announced any reduction in VAT. Diesel price in the financial capital was retailing at Rs 94.14 for a liter after the price cut, and was also unchanged. The price of one liter of diesel in Kolkata was fixed at Rs 89.79. In Chennai, diesel was priced at Rs 91.43 per liter, while in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a liter of diesel would cost Rs 90.87.

The states which have cut Value Added Tax are mostly BJP or NDA ruled states. Punjab and Rajasthan are the only two Congress-ruled states that have reduced taxes on their part. However, some Congress-ruled states had not cut VAT and demanded a further reduction in central excise duty.

Among the states that have not reduced VAT so far, the Congress and its allies have ruled Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. AAP-ruled Delhi, TMC-ruled West Bengal, Left-ruled Kerala, TRS-led Telangana and YSR Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh have also not deducted VAT in their regions.
