Petrol, diesel prices fall after Centre, states cut tax; See how much you have to pay

Petrol, diesel prices today, December 16: Petrol and diesel prices in India remained unchanged on Thursday, December 16, according to a price notification issued by state-owned oil marketing companies. The price of petrol and diesel in India have remained stable ever since the central government as well as some state governments have reduced taxes on them. Fuel prices had hit an all-time high before the government stepped in and crossed the Rs 100 mark in most cities, causing inconvenience to the common man. After the central government cut excise duty on fuel rates, the price of petrol was reduced by Rs 5 and the price of diesel was cut by Rs 10 across India.

Delhi government was the latest state government to reduce value added taxes petrol and diesel, Following this move, VAT was reduced from 30 per cent to 19.40 per cent. The price of petrol in Delhi was reduced by Rs 8.56 and stood at Rs 95.41 during the day. According to a notification, the price of diesel on Wednesday was Rs 86.67 per liter. It was lowest in the National Capital Region (NCR).

A liter of petrol can be bought in Mumbai at Rs 109.98 per liter. Petrol price in the financial capital was the highest among the four metro cities. For a liter of petrol in Chennai, you will have to pay Rs 101.40. Petrol in Kolkata was available at Rs 104.67 per litre. The price of petrol in Ahmedabad that day was Rs 95.13. Petrol, on the other hand, was retailing at Rs 109.52 per liter in Pune.

Diesel price in Mumbai was retailing at Rs 94.14 for a liter after the price cut, and was also unchanged. The price of one liter of diesel in Kolkata was fixed at Rs 89.79. In Chennai, diesel was priced at Rs 91.43 per liter, while in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a liter of diesel would cost Rs 90.87.

Globally, crude oil prices rose on Thursday as consumer petroleum demand contained in the US hit a record high in the world’s top oil consumer. Brent crude oil futures were up 65 cents, or 0.9 per cent, at $74.53 a barrel by 0436 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 74 cents, or 1 per cent, to $71.61.
