Despite a record jump in crude oil basket prices, India Purchase, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in the country on Monday, June 13. Following the decision of the central government, several other states also announced reduction of VAT levied on fuel prices. Fuel prices in Delhi have been reduced by Rs 8.69 and Rs 7.05 for a liter of petrol and diesel. Petrol in the national capital is currently being sold at Rs 96.92 per liter while diesel is being sold at Rs 86.62 per litre.
Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai were Rs 111.35 and Rs 97.28 respectively. In Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, fuel prices for petrol remain at Rs 106.03 and for diesel at Rs 92.76 today.
In addition to crude oil prices in the international market, fuel prices depend on several factors including rupee-dollar exchange and tax rates. Tax slabs also differ from one state to another / hence, the prices are not uniform across the country. Fuel prices are revised every day by IL marketing companies including Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
