Recently, while there has been no relief from the high Petrol and Diesel Prices, the rates have been stable for over a month now. The last major revision in fuel rates was on May 21 when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a reduction in central excise duty. Duty was cut by Rs 8 per liter petrol Whereas at Rs.6 per liter diesel, This led to a fall in the prices of petrol and diesel.
Since then, the price of petrol has been hovering around Rs 100 per liter in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, while the price of diesel in these areas is around Rs 95 per litre.
As of July 10, petrol is selling at Rs 96.72 per liter in Delhi, while the price of diesel is Rs 89.62 per litre. A liter of petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 111.35 while diesel is being sold at Rs 97.28 per liter in the city. There has been no volatility in fuel prices in Kolkata and Chennai as well. Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 106.03 per liter while diesel costs Rs 94.25 per liter in the city. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai is Rs 102.63 and Rs 94.25 per liter respectively.
Oil prices rose in the international market on Friday. Brent crude futures were up $2.37, or 2.3 per cent, at $107.02 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude was up $2.06, or 2 per cent, at $104.79 a barrel, according to Reuters. However, Brent posted a weekly decline of around 4.1 per cent and WTI declined by 3.4 per cent.
