Fuel prices have remained unchanged for more than 50 days. Petrol and diesel prices India remains stable for more than 50 days, which is still a burden on the pockets of many Indian families. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) made the last revision in fuel prices on May 21, after cutting excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and diesel by Rs 6 per liter. Despite the shortfall, petrol rates in various cities continue to climb above Rs. 100 per litre.
Today i.e. till July 12, Delhiites have to pay Rs 96.72 per liter for petrol and Rs 89.62 per liter for diesel. If you are a resident of Mumbai, then petrol costs Rs 111.35 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 97.28 per litre. Petrol price in Kolkata and Chennai is increasing above Rs. 100 per liter mark. In the capital of West Bengal, petrol costs Rs 106.03 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 92.7 per litre. On the other hand, the rate of petrol in Chennai is Rs 102.63 per liter, while the rate of diesel is Rs. 94.24 per liter. Other cities where petrol is skyrocketing above Rs. 100 per liter includes Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram.
Public sector OMCs such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) are responsible for announcing the revision of fuel rates. All changes made in the prices of petrol and diesel are effective from 6 am daily.
Fluctuations in fuel rates also depend on foreign exchange rates, international crude oil prices, global inflation and other factors. Notably, petrol and diesel prices are not uniform across cities due to several local factors such as state tax, VAT (value added tax) and freight charges.
