Petrol, Diesel Price Today: Petrol price in Delhi below Rs 100; check fuel rates

Petrol and diesel rates remained stable across the country as on Friday, January 14, 2022. Fuel rates have remained stable for more than two months after the central government reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively. , on November 3. Before the revision in excise duty, prices of both the major fuels had hit record highs across the country with petrol above Rs 100 per liter in all major metros and most cities. Diesel was also above that level in almost half of the country.

Following the central government’s decision, several states and union territories cut Value Added Tax (VAT) to provide further relief to consumers who are seeing skyrocketing fuel prices. Similarly, the Delhi government also decided to reduce VAT on petrol alone from 30 per cent to 19.40 per cent on December 1, 2021. This resulted in a cut of around Rs 8.56 per liter in the city and reduced the price of petrol by Rs 103 per litre. 95.41 from a liter currently. Similarly, diesel prices also remained unchanged at Rs 86.67 per liter in the national capital. The prices of both the auto fuels have remained stable since then.

Fuel prices remained stable in Mumbai on Friday. Motorists will have to pay Rs 109.98 and Rs 94.14 per liter for petrol and diesel respectively. Petrol is selling at Rs 101.40 per liter and diesel at Rs 91.43 per liter in Chennai. The price of petrol and diesel in Kolkata was Rs 104.67 and diesel Rs 89.79 per liter respectively.

Meanwhile, global benchmark oil prices eased for a second session on Friday amid rising concerns that the US may soon act to cool prices, Reuters reported. Brent crude futures were trading 30 cents, or 0.4 per cent lower, at $84.17 a barrel on Friday. Whereas, US West Texas Intermediate crude was trading down 45 cents, or 0.6 per cent, at $81.67 a barrel.
