There was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel on Tuesday, July 5. Fuel prices have remained stable since May 21, when Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per liter respectively. This step led to a decrease in price of petrol 9.5 per liter and diesel Rs 7 per liter.
Petrol price in Delhi on Tuesday is Rs 96.72 per liter, while diesel consumers will have to pay Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol customers in Mumbai will have to pay Rs 111.35 per liter, while a liter of diesel in the country’s financial capital is available for Rs 97.28. In Kolkata, a liter of petrol costs Rs 106.03, while a liter of diesel is selling at Rs 92.76 per litre. Petrol consumers in Chennai will have to pay Rs 102.63 per liter while diesel consumers in Tamil Nadu capital will have to pay Rs 94.24 per litre.

Prices are revised on the international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates in the global market. Apart from OMCs, the fuel price within the country also varies from state to state. This happens because the prices of petrol and diesel depend on many local factors which affect their cost. The price of fuel in a state depends on freight charges and local taxes (VAT).
