Petrol, Diesel Price: Petrol price today below Rs 100 in many cities; check fuel rate here

The new year has begun, but there is no change in domestic fuel prices, as petrol and diesel prices in the country remained unchanged across cities on Monday, January 3. Notably, this is the first time since November 3. Prices of both the major fuels remain unchanged after the central government cut the highest ever excise duty to bring down retail pump prices from record highs in 2021. State-owned- Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have not revised the prices of auto fuels in the country and the rates have remained stable since then. The November revision made petrol cheaper by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 10 per litre, however, in many states including Bihar, Rajasthan, petrol still costs over Rs 100 per litre.

Subsequently, the Delhi state government also reduced VAT on petrol from 30 to 19.4 per cent on December 1, the revision led to a cut of Rs 8 per liter in the city, while the price of diesel also remained unchanged at Rs 86.67 in Delhi. per litre. The rate remained the same on Monday as well.

As per the price notification by OMCs, except Delhi, petrol is still running above Rs 100 in all metros. Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 109.98 per liter while diesel costs Rs 94.14 per liter.

Petrol in Chennai can be bought at Rs 101.40 per liter and diesel at Rs 91.43 per liter.

In Kolkata, a liter of precious auto fuel costs Rs 104.67. On Monday, the price of one liter of diesel was Rs 101.56 per litre.

In Bhopal, motorists have to pay Rs 107.23 and Rs 90.87 for a liter of petrol and diesel respectively.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices in the international market which rose nearly 50 per cent last year continued on Monday as the market started 2022 on a positive note. However, concerns over demand eased due to the rapid spread of the Omicorn COVID variant, resulting in limited gains, Reuters reported. Brent crude was up 67 cents, or 0.86 percent, to $78.45 a barrel as of 0102 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 77 cents, or 1.02 per cent, to $75.98 a barrel.
