Petrol-Diesel gets COSTLIER! THIS state increases VAT; Know details here

New Delhi: Today i.e. on January 8 (Sunday), the Himachal Pradesh government announced that the Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel would be increased by Rs 7.40 per litre. After the state government increased VAT on fuel from 6.40 per cent to 9.96 per litre, it is expected to become more expensive in the state. With this increase, the current VAT rate of diesel will increase by Rs 4.40 per liter to Rs 7.40. As a result, diesel will be costlier by Rs 86 instead of Rs 83.


Due to increase in VAT, the price of diesel is likely to increase by about Rs 3 per litre. At the same time, VAT on petrol has also been reduced by about 0.55 paise.

The election was held on the same day the state government expanded its cabinet. Seven MLAs, including Vikramaditya Singh, son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, took oath to serve in the new cabinet in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday morning.
