Petrol crosses Rs 100 in Tamil Nadu after steep hike in fuel rates – Times of India

New Delhi: Petrol price in Tamil Nadu rose by over Rs 100 per liter in Tamil Nadu after fuel prices were hiked again on Saturday.
Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 35 paise per liter – the sharpest in recent times, according to a price notification from state-owned fuel retailers.
The hike pushed rates across the country to new highs and Tamil Nadu became the latest state where petrol crossed the Rs 100 per liter mark.
In Delhi, petrol touched an all-time high of Rs 98.11 per litre, while diesel now costs Rs 88.65 per litre.
Fuel prices vary from state to state based on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges.
While petrol had crossed Rs 100 per liter mark Rajasthan Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telanganahandjob KarnatakaSeveral cities in Tamil Nadu, including Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha and Ladakh, Salem, Vellore and Cuddalore saw this level following a steep hike in prices.
Petrol in Chennai costs Rs 99.19 per liter while diesel costs Rs 93.23 per litre.
In metro cities, petrol is already above Rs 100 in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Petrol in Mumbai now costs Rs 104.22 per liter and diesel Rs 96.16 per litre.
The rate of diesel, the most widely used fuel in the country, has crossed the Rs 100 per liter mark in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh, as well as at some places in Odisha.
The hike on Saturday is the 30th increase in prices since May 4, when state-owned oil companies ended an 18-day hiatus in revising rates during assembly elections in states like West Bengal.
Petrol prices have increased by Rs 7.71 per liter and diesel by Rs 8.12 per liter in 30 hikes.
Oil companies revise the rates of petrol and diesel daily in the last 15 days based on the average price of the benchmark fuel in the international market and foreign exchange rates.
Oil prices have risen on optimism of a sharp recovery in fuel demand. Brent crude crossed $75 per barrel for the first time since April 2019.
