‘Perpetrators must always be held accountable’: EAM Jaishankar message to Pakistan on its terrorism model

India’s stand on terrorism: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday reiterated India’s firm belief in the ‘zero tolerance’ model on terrorism. Speaking virtually at the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council, the minister underlined that terrorism leads to inevitable violations of human rights and said it has no justification.

Jaishankar said, “India strongly believes that the world must demonstrate zero tolerance with regard to terrorism. It is the most inexcusable violation of human rights and has no justification under any circumstances.” Without naming Pakistan in his address, the External Affairs Minister asserted that perpetrators of terrorism must be held to account for crimes against humanity.

“Its perpetrators must always be held accountable,” he said.

Pakistan has not done enough to eliminate terrorist groups working against India: US

Notably, his remarks come a day after the United States exposed Islamabad’s role in nurturing and harboring terrorists in its country. Reports said terrorists from Pakistan eventually turned to neighboring India to carry out deadly operations against civilians and defense personnel.

In the latest development, US State Department released a report Titled on terrorism – “Country Report on Terrorism” – it emphasizes how Islamabad is using its soil to “shelter UN-designated terrorists”. “Several UN- and US-designated terrorist groups that focus on attacks outside the country may operate from Pakistani soil in 2021, including the Haqqani Network, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) Continued to do so,” the report noted.

Pakistan made terrorist attacks on India

In addition, the report found that Islamabad took “some steps” in 2021 to combat terrorism financing, mainly focused on spreading terror in India, it noted that the authorities had not done enough to eliminate them. According to the report, “Although Pakistan took some steps in 2021 to combat terror financing and rein in some India-centric terrorist groups, the authorities did not take enough action to eliminate them.” In addition, it was noted that Pakistan successfully prosecuted Jaish founder Masood Azhar in absentia and Jaish leader Abdul Rauf Azhar; However, LeT and JeM continue to operate within the country.

India has on several occasions exposed Islamabad for spreading terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and other regions of the world. During his recent speeches at the UN forum, Jaishankar highlighted how Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, was involved in the brutal attack in Mumbai. Recently, Jaishankar taught a lesson to his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto when he tried to corner India on the issue of terrorism. In fact, Jaishankar called the country a “hub of terrorism”.
