‘People for LIC’ campaign launched in Kerala

Starting from Kerala, people’s campaign is going on against the privatization of LIC. This campaign named “People for LIC” has been started with the support of trade unions, social organizations, employees of PSU insurance companies, insurance agents, policyholders, retired officers etc.

Inaugurating the website for the campaign, CITU leader Elaram Karim said the intention of the campaign is to make it a pan-India movement in line with the farmers’ strike in the capital. The campaign will soon be extended to other parts of the country as well.

In the first phase, Karim said that specially trained volunteers of the campaign would approach LIC policyholders to take their signatures against the sale of equity shares of the insurance company. The volunteers will create awareness about the need to maintain LIC in the government sector for the benefit of the people.

More than 300 workers will be trained for the campaign to be held in public places and libraries against LIC’s decision to privatize. He said that it has been decided to conduct 10,000 such campaigns across the state.
