WASHINGTON: China continues to take “incremental and strategic action” to press its claims along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India and unsuccessfully try to prevent New Delhi from deepening its ties with the United States. Yes, the Pentagon said in a report.
“The PRC (People’s Republic of China) seeks to prevent border tensions by making India partner more closely with the United States of America. PRC officials warn US officials not to interfere in PRC’s relations with India,” the Defense Department told the US Congress on Wednesday.
The Pentagon regularly reports to Congress on the Indo-Chinese military standoff in eastern Ladakh. The department has categorically stated that China is indulging in aggressive and coercive dealings with its neighbours, especially India. The Pentagon said that despite ongoing diplomatic and military dialogue to de-escalate tensions along the border, China continues to “take incremental and strategic action” to press its claims on the LAC.
“In 2020, China built a large 100-household civilian village inside the disputed area between the Chinese Tibet Autonomous Region and India’s Arunachal Pradesh state in the eastern region of the LAC. These and other infrastructure developments with India-China Efforts have been a source of panic in the Indian government,” the Pentagon said.
