Karachi: The pitches prepared at home for the first two Tests against Australia are facing constant criticism. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) summoned to the east ICC Academy head curator Toby Lumsden To monitor the preparations for the final match starting on Monday at the Gaddafi Stadium.
So far, eight centuries have been scored in two Test matches, six by Pakistani batsmen and two by Australia in Karachi. Both games have amassed over 2,300 runs with 14 wickets falling in Pindi and 28 in Karachi.
The PCB has confirmed that Lumsden has arrived in Lahore on a 10-day assignment and will use his experience to help local curators prepare the surface for the third Test.
A PCB official said he would also help local curators understand the modern requirements of pitch preparation.
Lumsden, who has also been a curator at the MCG, is currently overseeing all preparatory work in Lahore, where the results of the pitch are expected after the first two Tests are drawn.
Lumsden is not the first foreign curator to be appointed by the PCB, which in the past has brought in other foreign curators to help prepare the pitch during home series as well.
A reliable source on the board said that the PCB Chairman, Ramiz Raja A lot of attention is being paid to the improvement of pitches in Pakistan.
“He wants to change and improve the process of preparing pitches and may also be given a lengthy job helping Lumsden train local curators,” he said.
Hire Indian Curators To Prepare “Turners”, Says aaqib javed
Former Pakistan Test pacer and acclaimed coach Aaqib Javed wants the PCB to pick the brains of Indian curators, who are regularly preparing rank turners in their own backyard.
“Why go anywhere else? I would say find out from the curators in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai etc. how they prepare the turners which are dominated by the Indian spinners. I am surprised that till now Pakistan has not been able to make a pure turning track, which Help our spinners,” Aaqib said on a YouTube channel.
He insisted that Pakistan could beat Australia only through spin as the Pakistani fast bowlers were not as experienced as the fast bowlers were.
