Police said that the accused was not only messaging the murdered girl on her mobile for a long time, but was also torturing her mentally. “It was the circumstantial evidence and the last messages on the slain girl’s mobile that helped us zero in on Pawan Kumar Saroj,” said a senior police officer associated with the investigation. He has been taken into custody for the murder of four family members in Trans Ganga village. The bodies were found on the morning of November 25.
He said that the accused was not cooperating in the investigation and tried to mislead the police several times by making false reports about the incident.
The police have also noticed some injury marks on his body during the medical examination and are now collecting evidence to nab three to four more people who may have helped the prime accused in eliminating the family members in this gruesome night. .
Ever since the police arrested Pawan from his Tharvai village, the accused kept changing the names of his associates while some of his close relatives have fled from their respective villages.
Police is relying on call details and DNA profiles to nab other accused.
The police also clarified that the people named in the FIR by the relatives of the deceased have nothing to do with the murders as per the investigation conducted so far. The people against whom the family members of the deceased had lodged an FIR had a dispute with the brother of the deceased.
The main accused also denied having any relation with the deceased girl and refused to send even a single message to her. But when the police showed her messages sent to the girl – saved as ‘Gori Man’ – on the mobile, the accused had no response.
The police investigation also claimed that as per the forensic evidence and medical report, a man had raped the deceased girl.

Police said that Pawan has admitted that he was following the girl for a long time but she was constantly ignoring him. Disturbed by his behaviour, he claimed to have committed the crime. “Pawan was a jilted lover and wanted to teach a lesson to the girl,” police said.
Earlier, a case was registered against 11 people under sections 147, 148, 149, 302, 376 (d) and 3/4 of the POCSO Act and SC/ST Act for the incident.
The killings became a major issue as political leaders from various parties including Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Samajwadi Party attacked the government over the law and order situation.
