Paul Pogba turns down new Manchester United offer of £50m, bowing down to PSG move

France midfielder Paul Pogba has declined a £50 million (Rs 512 crore) contract from Manchester United and is most likely to move to Paris this summer. The Red Devils, who took advantage of Pogba’s services in 2016, signed the French mid-fielder on a six-year contract, but he failed to live up to the expectations of the price he was brought in, i.e. £89 million (Rs 911 crore).

The midfielder has been inconsistent in his performances with United and has faced harsh criticism over the years. However, after a stellar performance at the recently concluded Euro 2020, Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG) have offered United £45 million (Rs 460 crore) for the services of Pogba.

The 28-year-old French star has many friends in Paris and could be highly interested in moving to Ligue 1 as PSG make changes to their squad, taking the likes of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool. and Euro 2020 winner Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan. Coach Mauricio Pochettino is eager to boost his squad with creativity and bolster the defense and with Pogba’s inclusion PSG could be unstoppable.

United risked losing Pogba for free the following year when his contract expired and Star would sell the player instead of receiving anything for the player. United are set to offer Pogba a new contract that will earn him £350,000 (Rs 3.58 crore) per week. However, Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola ignored the offer on the table and have been in touch with PSG for several days.

Pogba’s decision to leave United could relate to Manchester United who lost to Villarreal in the Europa League final on penalties.

Since joining Manchester United in 2016, Pogba has made 199 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 38 goals in all competitions. The 2018 World Cup winner’s move to PSG could greatly strengthen the mid-field, especially with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria making their attack deadly.

A major breakthrough for PSG would be to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus. The 36-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the Serie A giants after the Turin-based club failed to win the league title and finish fourth in the table.

Rumors about Ronaldo staying at Juventus are getting stronger every day and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is likely to make a sensational move to Manchester United this summer.
