Patil, who had started his political career as a youth wing leader of the BJP, proposed to Der while addressing a mass marriage function at Babaria Dhar village in Rajula taluka of Amreli district, where he was also present.

Talking to reporters later about Patil’s statement, Der said that every party tries to give tickets to those who can win the elections. Political observers said Patil’s open offer shows that the ruling BJP is trying to woo Congress MLAs to win the state elections by the end of 2022.
Patil while addressing the mass marriage function organized by Ahir Samaj said, “In earlier times, when people used to travel by state transport buses, they used to secure their seats by keeping their handkerchiefs, we also reserved seats for ders. had done it.”
“He started his career with our party and we have a right over him,” Patil said. Later speaking to reporters in Amreli, Der did not clarify his stand on joining the ruling party.
“Every party, be it BJP, Congress or AAP, would like to put up a strong candidate in the election and it is common practice that parties propose leaders who have won the previous election or who have the potential to win the next election. ” he said.
“I started my political career with the youth wing of the BJP and spent seven to eight years in that party. Patil was our senior and an MP at that time. By making this statement, he is showing affection,” the MLA said.
The BJP on Wednesday held a one-day state party executive meeting in which the party discussed in detail the preparations for the December 2022 state elections.
In the past, the BJP had won over several Congress MLAs to weaken the opposition party in Gujarat. These include Congress MLAs like Alpesh Thakor, Kunwarji Bavaliya and Jawahar Chavda. Before the 2017 state assembly elections Shankarsinh Vaghela He had resigned after cross-voting in favor of the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, however, he did not join the ruling party.
In the 2017 elections, the BJP won 99 seats, while the opposition Congress got 77 seats. However, the strength of the BJP in the House is currently 112, while that of the Congress at 65 had several MLAs switched sides.
