A video of Pathanamthitta District Collector Dr Divya S Iyer dancing with college students as part of a flash mob organized in connection with the MG University Youth Festival has gone viral.
The collector can be seen enjoying and sharing the dance space with the students. The students were amazed at how fast the collector moved and danced like one of them without any practice.
Pathanamthitta Collector Dr Divya S Iyer told CNN News18, “The performance really took me back to my youth festival days. My parents and my son were also there. The presence of my parents really took me back to my youth festival days. Brings back memories of days.
The collector said the students were performing with great energy and she just stuck to it. The collector also said that at times the forms of self-expression have become limited but now all that is slowly changing.
After the protest several people asked the collector why there was no hesitation in doing so, he replied, “Why do I expect hesitation.”
The collector admitted that she really wanted to dance more after the performance was over. And it was something that he thoroughly enjoyed.
At least 15 students of Catholic College, Pathanamthitta were taking part in flash mobs organized in different parts of Pathanamthitta on March 30 and 31. MG University Youth Festival is in Pathanamthitta District from 1st to 7th April.
There was a lights-on ceremony on the evening of 31st March and it was at this place that the students invited the collector to dance with them. For the students, it was a wonderful experience.
One of the participants of Flash Mob, Anirudh B Kurup told CNN-News18, “We were really inspired, we thoroughly enjoyed it and felt satisfied when he danced with us. He caught all our moves so fast without any practice.”
During his student years the Collector himself was an active participant in youth festivals and after the dance, he spoke to the students about his experiences during his programs and cultural programmes.
