A native of Jaipur, Rajasthan, Parvinder Singh Dhonkal secured the All India Rank (AIR) 3 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 in Mechanical Engineering. However, this was not the first time he had given the entrance exam. Singh had attempted and cleared the exam in 2021 as well, however, he believed that his score was not good enough that I could get his dream job in Indian Oil.
Not satisfied with his first attempt, he once again appeared for the Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) in engineering in 2022. “To score better, I attempted the test a second time,” he told News18.com. “My dream is in IOCL, so I am planning accordingly. I am now preparing to complete the recruitment process,” says Parvinder.

While taking the exam, Singh followed the strategy of solving the easy part first and answering the time-consuming questions at the end. Before attempting the tough questions, it meant scoring some marks beforehand and boosting confidence, which then helped with the tough questions, he said, “It helped me attempt maximum questions and made me revise Got time for it.”
The easiest subjects for him were GA and English, Maths, SOM, Thermo etc. Whereas the toughest section was MJOJ, 3RIP part and LPP shadow cost questions. A student of BYJU’S Exam Prep, he says that the revision and practice sessions helped him understand each and every topic conceptually and crack this exam with confidence.

He completed his schooling from Cambridge Court High School, Jaipur and is the youngest member of his family. He also has two elder sisters. His father, Rajveer Singh, is an employee of the Rajasthan Housing Board, while his mother, Pal Kaur teaches in a government school. “Both my parents are government officials and always used to tell me about my work. This inspired me to follow in his footsteps. That’s when I decided to apply for GATE exam and get a mechanical engineer job.”
