Parliament Budget Session kick-starts today, President Murmu to address both Houses

Opposition parties today began the budget session of Parliament to target the government on several issues, including the Adani-Hindenburg row. The session will begin with President Draupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. Murmu’s address will highlight the achievements and policy priorities of the government.

The Economic Survey will also be tabled as part of the budget session of Parliament. There will be 27 sittings in the budget session. The first part of the session will end on February 14. Parliament will resume on March 12 for the second part of the session which will continue till April 6. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a meeting on Wednesday (February 1). ) present the last full Union Budget of the Modi government.

In the all-party meeting called on Monday, the government said that it is ready to discuss every issue under the rules during the budget session of Parliament. In the all-party meeting, Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi Party, Manoj Jha of RJD, DMK, Left parties and others raised the Adani issue and demanded a discussion on it in Parliament during the session.

Parties like the BRS and the DMK raised the issue of the conduct of the governors in the states ruled by them.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also held a meeting ahead of the budget session.

During the budget session, the government plans to introduce around 36 bills, including four related to budgetary exercises.

PM Modi’s meeting before the budget session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired the meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in New Delhi ahead of the Union Budget. The first meeting to be held for the Union Council of Ministers in 2023 began at 10 am.

This comes amid talks of a cabinet reshuffle and ahead of assembly elections in nine states due this year. The Finance Ministry is considering proposals to benefit the middle class in the upcoming budget.
