Similar to the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of the Paralympics will not be held at a stadium, instead it will take place in a moving setting from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.

The latest edition of the Paralympic Summer Games will be hosted in Paris. The mega sports event will commence with a glittery opening ceremony on August 28. Similar to the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of the Paralympics will not be held at a stadium. It will take place in a moving setting from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. More than 50,000 spectators are expected to attend the Paralympic opening ceremony in the French capital. The celebration is slated to begin at 8 PM local time (11:30 PM IST) on Wednesday.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympics will begin on the Champs-Elysees avenue sweeping through the 8th arrondissement to the west of central Paris. This place is home to many beautiful cafes, palaces and luxury shops. This iconic avenue connects the Arc de Triomphe with the Place de la Concorde in a single straight line.

Nearly 184 delegations will open the event with a parade on the Champs-Elysees. All the participating athletes and officials will also be part of this open rally. It will be followed by the official Paralympics parade on Place de la Concorde, which can be attended only by the ticket holders.

“While the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony will be the first of its kind, its monumental and popular concept is, first and foremost a magnificent source of inspiration. From the Champs-Elysees to Place de la Concorde, I look forward to creating this spectacle that will transform the heart of Paris, with performances that have never been seen before,” Thomas Jolly, Artistic Director for the 2024 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremonies has said, as quoted by Olympics.com.

Alexander Ekman has been assigned to oversee the performances at the Paralympic opening ceremony. The Swedish choreographer is renowned for his version of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake. Specially abled ballet dancers have been called up for the event. About this unique approach, Ekman has said, “They are extraordinary. They are more capable than many able-bodied people, both mentally and physically.”
