Paresh Rawal summoned by Kolkata Police for ‘cook fish for bengalis’ comment despite apology

Paresh Rawal’s recent remark during a rally in Gujarat landed him in trouble even after he issued an apology on it. The actor has been summoned by the police in Kolkata for his ‘cook fish for Bengalis’ statement. Paresh has been asked to appear at Taltala police station on December 12. His development came after Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) leader Mohammad Salim lodged a police complaint against Paresh’s remarks.

According to ANI, the actor has been summoned by Kolkata Police on December 12 at Taltala police station for his “cooking fish for Bengalis” remark. ANI tweeted, “CPI(M) leader Mohd Salim files police complaint against Paresh Rawal’s remarks at Taltala police station, Kolkata.”

The CPI-M has filed a police complaint against the Bollywood actor, alleging that he made the remarks to incite riots and destroy harmony between the Bengali community and other communities. Police have registered a case against the actor on the basis of Salim’s complaint.

Paresh Rawal’s comment

The ‘Hera Pheri’ actor recently came under fire for a statement he made during an election rally in Gujarat, where he said, “Gas cylinders are expensive, but their price will come down. People will also get employment”. . But what if Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshis start living around you, like in Delhi? What about gas cylinders? Cook fish for Bengalis?”

Many did not like these comments. The actor was accused of hurting the sentiments of Bengali people with his words.

Paresh Rawal apologized

Amid the backlash, Paresh Rawal took to Twitter to clarify and apologise. In response to a user asking him to “clarify”, the actor wrote, “Of course fish is not the issue. As Gujarati, cook and eat fish. But let me clarify in Bengali I mean illegal Bangladeshi Rohingya.” But still if I have hurt your sentiments and feelings, I apologise.”

Meanwhile, the Bangla Pokho organization also protested against the actor over his remarks by feeding cooked fish to Paresh Rawal’s poster. He also said that he would not allow any film of the actor to be screened in any cinema hall of the state.
