Para-athlete in need of professional and financial support | Hubli News – Times of India

Hubli A genius para-athlete District, having proved herself among her peers in the country, is hoping for support from the government which will enable her to participate in global events, and hopefully make the country proud by earning medals.
Nilofar Dharwad, daughter of Aa PorterRecently secured the third position in the ‘Javelin Throw’ event in the National Para Athletics Championship 2021 organized by the National Paralympic Committee (NPC). He threw the javelin 19.82 metres, a feat that has earned him accolades from the respected para-athlete Girisha Hosnagar NagrajegowdaShe believes that Nilofer can achieve a lot if her talent is respected and encouraged.
Nilofar, with assistance from the government, is hoping to enlist the assistance of a professional. coach, The recent death of her father from cancer left her working hard to pour much-needed financial fuel into fulfilling her daughter’s dreams and devastated her in more ways than one.
In 2008, Nilofar lost his left arm, besides serious injuries to his abdomen and right leg, when he suffered an electric shock. A natural southpaw, the loss of her left arm also translated into the loss of her natural athletic talent. Refusing to accept his fate, Nilofar struggled, continued his education and obtained a degree from Nehru College. It was her sisters’ achievement in the field of sports – Nilofer’s siblings have achieved a lot in school and college level tournaments – that inspired her to get into athletics. Last year, he participated in the 30th edition of the Karnataka State Para Games in the F-46 category, winning gold in shot put event and silver in javelin throw. His achievements in the state-level event brought him national fame, and while participating in the 19th National Para Athletic Championship 2021, he won a bronze medal in the javelin throw event.
Nilofar is one of the six children of her parents. After the death of his father, his brother decided to take care of the family by becoming a porter. Nilofer lamented, “It is very difficult for my brother to make a living, let alone funding for my javelin throw training.”
Despite the seemingly insurmountable problems, Nilofar refuses to give up. She said that she was eager to supplement the family income for which she was ready to join any government organization or private company. “While I want to take care of my siblings and my mother, I am also committed to make India proud by winning a gold medal in an international event,” she said.
‘She can achieve more with the right guidance’
There is a lot of scope for female athletes, but they need professional help. If Nilofar can throw a javelin from about 20 meters away, I’m sure she can achieve a lot if provided with the necessary guidance. His talent needs to be acknowledged, and local authorities, sports enthusiasts and even the private sector should financially support him. I will take up his issue with the Karnataka Sports Association for the Physically Handicapped, and do what I can to encourage him.
