Panel to be constituted to study the origin and development of Indian culture: Union Minister India News – Times of India

Madurai: It has been decided to reconstitute the committee for a holistic study of the origin and development of Indian culture from 12,000 onwards. bp (before present) and its interface with other cultures of the world, ‘Minister of Culture and Tourism’ G Kishan Reddy In response to unstarred questions raised by Madurai MP Su, said Venkatesan first day of monsoon session Parliament on Monday.
The minister said that earlier the committee constituted in 2016 had only two meetings – on January 3 and May 2, 2017.
“All suggestions on diversity in membership will be considered while reconstituting the committee,” he said.
Venkatesan had asked whether the central government planned to dissolve the 16-member committee, which came under criticism for lack of diversity, to ensure fair representation with diversity.
Venkatesan told reporters on Tuesday that there was no representation of South India, Northeast India, minorities, Dalits and women in the previous committee. The MP raised the issue in Parliament on September 14, 2020. He said that almost all the members of the committee were from the creamy layer of the caste table and from North India.
On 23 September, a representation for diversity was given to the President of India by 32 parliamentarians from across India.
Venkatesan on Monday termed the minister’s reply as a victory for the efforts of 32 MPs. However, he added that the government’s intention in this regard should be carefully monitored and debated. He said that awareness should be created on the central government’s efforts to distort history and attack diversity.
