According to the traffic police, toll gates of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) remain jammed due to long queues and delay in clearing vehicles.
A traffic policeman further said that structural issues like 21 lanes of the Gurgaon side E-way converting to only four lanes on the Delhi side also puts pressure on heavy vehicles coming from Gurgaon.
“Vehicles going from Gurgaon to Delhi face problem as the traffic gets converted into narrow lanes towards Delhi. The median can be shifted slightly to solve the problem. We may also consider including service lanes in the main carriageway,” suggested DCP Traffic RS Tomar.
According to the NHAI, the MCD was set up on the toll expressway after the High Court order allowed the civic agency to park it for commercial vehicles entering Delhi.
An official said that if the median is shifted towards Dhanchari Camp, then only an eight-lane carriageway will be available to reach the Rajokri flyover, which will result in re-jamming of that section. “Hence, shifting the median will also not help,” said the NHAI official, suggesting discussing other options.
