PAN-Aadhaar linking: Know how to pay penalty

Have you linked your PAN with Aadhaar Card? According to the Income Tax Department, taxpayers who do not link PAN with Aadhaar will have to pay a fine ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000.

The latest tweet by the Income Tax Department states that there may be a demographic mismatch while linking PAN with Aadhaar.

IT said, “To facilitate easy linking of PAN and Aadhaar in case of any demographic mismatch, biometric-based authentication has been provided and can be availed at dedicated centers of PAN service providers (Protein and UTIITSL) Is.”

According to the IT department, if PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, the PAN will become inactive.

Follow these steps to pay the fine for linking to them.

Steps to pay fine:

  • step 1: Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal and click on the e-pay tax option.
  • step 2: Enter PAN details and continue.
  • step 3: After OTP verification, click on the Proceed button below the Income Tax item.
  • step 4: Select the Assessment Year as ‘2023-24’ and ‘Type of Payment (Minor Head)’ as ‘Other Receipts (500)’ and click on ‘Continue’ button.
  • Step 5: Continue to pay the amount already filled against the ‘Others’ option.
