A Pakistani terrorist linked to the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) was killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Thursday. The terrorist has been identified as Babar Bhai of Pakistan who was active since 2018.

Based on specific inputs regarding the presence of a terrorist in Parivaan area of ​​Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and Army (34RR) in the said area on Wednesday evening.

While moving the civilians from the encounter site to safer places, a police personnel, three army personnel and two civilians were also injured.

“All the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, police personnel Senior Grade Constable Rohit Chibb succumbed to his injuries and became martyr. The condition of the other injured including two civilians who sustained minor injuries is stated to be stable.” Police said.

In the ensuing encounter, a top Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Babar Bhai was killed and his body was recovered from the encounter site.

According to police records, the slain terrorist was a terrorist of the active category in Shopian-Kulgam and its surrounding areas since 2018. He was wanted by law in several terror offenses cases.

Police said, “Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle, one pistol and two grenades have also been recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered material was taken on record of the case for further investigation.” Is.”

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar along with Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir Range (SKR) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam visited the encounter site and SOG camp Nilo Kulgam, where they interacted with the JKP, Army and Police. The CRPF personnel also reviewed the security grid and operational aspects.

IGP Kashmir while interacting with the media in Kulgam said, “The owner and his family members, where the slain terrorist was hiding, deliberately misled the search team by saying that no terrorist was hiding in their house, causing collateral damage.” Hence, action under terror will be made against them.”

He also said that 14 terrorists have been killed so far during the current year, out of which seven are foreign terrorists, including one along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara.

IGP Kashmir paid tributes to the martyr police personnel who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured. He congratulated the combined forces for eliminating the most wanted Pakistani terrorist.

Police have started investigation by registering a case under relevant sections.

“People are requested to cooperate with the police till the area of ​​the encounter site is completely sanitized and all the explosive material is removed,” the police said.
