Cylinder blast in Balochistan: At least six people of a family, including five children, were killed when a gas cylinder exploded in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province on Sunday.

The ARY news channel reported that the explosion occurred as the family tried to turn on the heater to beat the bitter cold in the provincial capital Quetta. According to a police official, the dead included a father and his five children.

The entire house was damaged in the explosion caused by the gas leak.

“The family was sleeping when their house exploded due to a gas leak and six of them died in their rooms,” the official said.

The official said it is normal for people to use gas and electricity to heat their homes. The bodies have been shifted to the hospital, but the identities of the dead are yet to be ascertained, the report said.

Sui Southern Gas Company has been blamed for the incident for failing to create awareness among the public about the gas leak and explosion incidents.

Most parts of Balochistan, including the capital Quetta, were reeling under severe cold with the mercury falling to -10 degree Celsius to -15 degree Celsius in some areas, Dawn newspaper reported.
