Fawad Chowdhary arrested: Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from his Lahore residence on Wednesday morning. Chaudhary had publicly accused the Pakistan government of plotting to arrest former prime minister and party chief Imran Khan.

PTI leader Farooq Habib confirmed Chaudhary’s arrest. Habib put out a tweet this morning which said, “Fawad Chowdhary has been arrested by the police from his house. The imported government has gone mad. Several other PTI leaders have also condemned Chowdhary’s arrest.

An official PTI Twitter account also posted videos showing a convoy of police vehicles which the party claimed escorted Choudhary after his arrest.

The arrest of 52-year-old Chowdhury comes amid rumors that the government may arrest PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan. This prompted dozens of party workers to gather at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore to thwart any attempt to detain him.

Chaudhry’s arrest has deepened political rift in Pakistan where the opposition led by Khan is demanding mid-term elections. General elections are to be held in Pakistan after August. However, Khan is demanding mid-term elections.
